...for untested rape kits!

Throughout the United States, there are thousands of untested rape kits awaiting processing. These kits remained untested for various reasons, but one key one is the cost. To process an individual rape kit can cost over $1000. As a result, many rape victims go without justice, while the perpetrators of these crimes go free.

in 2004, actress and activist Mariska Hargitay founded the Joyful Heart Foundation to provide support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. One of their main programs, End the Backlog, is dedicated to addressing the appalling volume of untested rape kits in America.

I first heard about End the Backlog, Joyful Heart Foundation, and their work in this article and knew I had to do something about it. As a result, I decided to run to raise money for End the Backlog and the Joyful Heart Foundation. In the end, 19 backers with an average of $3.53 per mile (with 51.99 miles run) resulted in over $3,200 raised for the cause.
